Everyone should be aware that your TOEFL midterm is this week.
As stated before, this midterm will not be on your VOC words but you will be tested on your listening and reading ability. We did not do very well as a class the last midterm so I hope that everyone puts in a better effort and prepares well for this upcoming exam.

Leo missing some upcoming classes.
If the class is not aware, Leo will be away two classes every week for the next month. I expect everyone to help him out with whatever homework and class assignments given. We have to do our own work but also help each other.
Most people have handed-in their writing on assignment on obsession and their VOC sentences so Thank you for working hard. For the rest of you that has not handed-in your work it is due this Friday and there will be no more extensions.
We will be focusing a little more on our TOEFL listening abilities in the upcoming weeks while also getting serious with our VOC words. HInt, HInt there will be a QUIZ coming soon.

Week 10
This is after the first mid-term and most of us did not do very well. We were all aware of the test format and was given ample time to prepare and yet we could have done so much better. We need to put in more effort if we want to do better.
For this week's homework, we will continue with the next set of 25 VOC words for the week. Put in more hard work and I will check to make sure that you are presenting original work instead of sentences taken from dictionaries.

Second semester TOEFL standards.
Welcome back everybody!!
Last semester we concentrated on our speaking in TOEFL class, we worked on learning new transition words and did lots of speaking drills. This semester we are going to expand on our TOEFL skills by including the other parts of the TOEFL test.
We will be drilling on our reading, listening and writing in addition to speaking. We will cover all aspects of the TOEFL test and get everybody familiar with the test format. We will also be required to learn a 500 word vocabulary list that is essential to TOEFL taking.
Once again, hard work is required and fun will be had along the way, but most importantly we will learn and progress as we work towards our goal of scoring well on our TOEFL.
P/S Scoring well for TOEFL means a score of 100 over a total of 120.

Year End.
We had some laughs in class especially with Stephanie entertaining us so much but hopefully in the midst of all that laughter we also learned and progressed in our speaking skills. We worked hard on varying our usage of transition words and I hope that everyone will be able to work our classroom learning into the everyday usage of our English speaking. We also learned to be quick thinkers and had lots of activities that help us develop differing viewpoints and arguing on both sides of a subject.
As Chinese New Year rolls around and the winter break is upon us, I wish everyone a "Happy Chinese New Year" and lots of "Lucky Red Packets" in your pockets.
TRY to show off some of your newly found English speaking skills with your relatives this holiday season. See you back again soon ready and recharged.
